Joseph Kai is a comic book author. His style favors a delicate line and an introspective tone, a merger of a traditional French-Belgian style and an experimental Beiruti tendency. At the moment, he’s working on his new graphic novel “Sissies” at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris where he lives.
Lena Merhej, Ph.D., is a visual artist and an expert in graphic narration. She taught at several universities in Beirut, directed Beirut Animated, worked with Tosh Fesh to promote comics and founded the Story Center. She is also a co-founder and a member in Samandal, an award-winning comics organization in Lebanon. Lena illustrated over 30 Arabic children’s books and has exhibited her work internationally.
Born in 1972 in Tripoli Lebanon, I live in Brussels, I’m a comic artist, a filmmaker and a member of Samandal.
Raphaelle was born and raised in Beirut, Lebanon where she completed her studies in illustration and comics. Since 2012, she has been working as a freelancer in illustration, comics, graphic design, animation and advertising. She is currently based in Paris where she is working on her first graphic novel.
Nour Hifaoui is an illustrator and a comic artist based in Lebanon. The city of Beirut, with all its chaos and social struggles, makes her want to convey all of these aspects through her art. Nour is now an active member of two comic collectives in Beirut: Samandal and Zeez.
Karen Keyrouz is a comics artist and illustrator based in Beirut. She launched her first graphic Novel “Flux et Reflux” (2018) with Académie Libanaise des Beaux Arts, where she earned her master’s degree (2015). She also published several short comics with Samandal and Zeez Collective that she co-founded. Her work focuses mainly on autobiographical and psychological themes.
Tracy Chahwan’s first graphic novel “Beirut Bloody Beirut” (Marabulles, 2018) tells the story of two girls lost in Beirut at night. She has worked on multiple short comics also marked by dark humor and chaotic urban experiences. Her illustration work focuses mainly on music visuals for bands, record labels and underground music collectives such as Yukunkun Club and the Beirut Groove Collective.
